In the very midst of our vulnerability, sorrow, and distress also lies the opportunity for insight, openness, and the courage to grow as humans. “All movement is a sign of thirst,” writes Hafiz.
Whatever brings you here — whatever weight or pain you carry, whatever is missing, feels edgy or stuck, whatever you thirst for — I’m glad you found your way to Jinji Willingham Psychotherapy & Stage of life Counseling. I’d love the chance to work together to release burdens, remove obstacles, reach for what you want, and help you “live the life you have imagined” (Thoreau).
The Path of Care: Caregiver Workshops & Training (CEU’s)
How we accompany the suffering of others can nourish us — or leave us prone to what Joan Halifax calls “edge states”: empathic distress, secondary trauma, moral injury, and caregiver burnout. As a psychotherapist and zen chaplain, I specialize in trauma-informed and science-based experiential workshops and training for a broad spectrum of professional caregivers: psychotherapists, social workers, medical professionals, chaplains, teachers, parents, and social justice activists.
A grounded and well-regulated nervous system allows us to offer ethical care with both compassion and equanimity, to avoid empathic distress and sustainably serve others with “a soft front and a strong back.”
“Things fall apart,” said Gotama, “tread the path with care.”
